The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has rolled out six enhanced security measures ahead of the festive season, including activation of a multi-agency command centre, increased police deployment in public areas, tighter traffic enforcement, and a nationwide crackdown on organized crime and illicit drugs.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the ministry said the overall security situation across the country “remains calm and stable,” but warned that past trends show the festive period often records “isolated increases in security incidents, traffic violations, and other opportunistic criminal activities.”
To address this, the government has activated the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) to coordinate surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response before, during, and after the holidays.
The centre brings together officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, National Intelligence Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forestry Service, National Youth Service, and the National Government Administration.
“Similar coordination centres have been activated at regional and county levels to enhance operational command and control,” the statement noted, adding that the National Police Service has operationalized festive season orders to ensure intelligence-led operations and effective maintenance of law and order.
Security coverage has also been boosted nationwide, with officers deployed at airports, border crossings, hotels, shopping malls, beaches, tourist sites, central business districts, places of worship, entertainment venues, and critical infrastructure.
The ministry said all officers previously on leave have resumed duty, with support from specialized police units and logistical and air support from the Ministry of Defence.
On the roads, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), working with the Traffic Police Department, has launched a nationwide traffic operation targeting congestion and accidents on major highways and urban roads. The operation includes joint enforcement, deployment of mobile courts where necessary, and the involvement of EACC officers to deter corruption during enforcement.
Regional and County Security Committees have also reinforced counter-terrorism preparedness and intensified surveillance, particularly around critical infrastructure and large public gatherings. At the same time, a NACADA-led operation has been launched to curb the production, sale, and consumption of illicit brews and drugs.
The ministry further said security teams have escalated targeted enforcement against organized criminal gangs and cultural and social crimes, including FGM, defilement, forced marriages, domestic violence, and religious extremism.
“With the understanding that public safety is a shared responsibility, we urge all wananchi to remain vigilant and to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers throughout the festive season,” the statement read in part.
The ministry urged members of the public to report suspicious activity through toll-free numbers 999, 911, or 112, as the government reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful and secure holiday period.
